Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) means breathing near-100% oxygen inside a pressurised chamber, usually around 2.0 ATA. At that pressure far more oxygen dissolves into the blood plasma and reaches tissues a normal breath cannot — the basis for its use in healing and recovery. What sudden sensorineural hearing loss is
SSNHL is a rapid, unexplained loss of hearing in the inner ear, usually in one ear, developing over up to 72 hours. It may come with ear fullness, dizziness or tinnitus. It is not the same as a blocked ear from wax or a cold. Because the inner ear's sensory cells can be permanently lost if starved of oxygen, SSNHL is treated as urgent — the sooner it is addressed, the better the odds of recovery.
Is HBOT effective for sudden hearing loss?

The cochlea has a very high oxygen demand and a fragile blood supply, and in SSNHL it is thought to become oxygen-starved. Protocols commonly run around 10–20 daily sessions at roughly 2.0–2.5 ATA, delivered alongside the steroids your ENT prescribes. Recovery is not guaranteed — some hearing loss is permanent regardless of treatment — but early, combined treatment offers the best realistic chance. Your ENT will first confirm the loss is sensorineural (inner-ear) rather than a conductive problem such as wax or middle-ear fluid, usually with an examination and a hearing test (audiogram).
