Clinical Evidence

We do not ask you to believe us. We give you the evidence.

HBOT is not a wellness trend. It is a medically established therapy with over 20,000 published studies, 14 FDA-approved indications, and decades of clinical use across hospitals worldwide.

What the research shows

HBOT is one of the most evidence-backed interventions for diabetic foot ulcers and chronic non-healing wounds. The mechanism is well understood: diabetic wounds fail to heal because poor circulation prevents adequate oxygen delivery to wound tissue. HBOT bypasses this by dissolving oxygen directly into blood plasma under pressure.

Key findings

  • Studies consistently show 30–40% faster wound closure compared to standard care alone
  • HBOT significantly reduces rates of major amputation in diabetic patients with chronic foot ulcers
  • Post-surgical wound healing is meaningfully accelerated, reducing complications and recovery time

Institutions: Johns Hopkins University, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), multiple NHS clinical trials (UK)

What the research shows

Some of the most exciting recent findings in HBOT research come from the longevity field — and they are significant. A landmark 2020 study found that a protocol of HBOT sessions produced measurable changes in two key biological markers of ageing.

Key findings

  • A landmark 2020 study (Shai Efrati et al., Tel Aviv University) found that 60 HBOT sessions significantly lengthened telomeres in older adults — one of the first non-pharmaceutical interventions to demonstrate this
  • The same study found a significant reduction in senescent cells (“zombie” cells linked to accelerated ageing)
  • HBOT stimulates mitochondrial activity — supporting better cellular energy production, which declines naturally with age

Telomere length and senescent cell load are two of the most watched biomarkers in longevity medicine.

What the research shows

HBOT supports neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to reorganise and form new neural connections. This has been studied across stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, autism spectrum conditions, and cognitive decline.

Key findings

  • Post-stroke patients undergoing HBOT alongside rehabilitation showed significantly greater recovery of motor function and cognitive ability
  • Studies on mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) show symptom reduction and improved cognitive outcomes with HBOT protocols
  • Research on autism shows improvements in social interaction, behaviour, and language in some populations following HBOT

Important note: HBOT is a support therapy in neurological contexts — not a cure. Results vary significantly by individual. Our medical team will give you an honest assessment.

What the research shows

Elite sports organisations worldwide have incorporated HBOT because the evidence supports it — and because performance margins are too thin to ignore.

Key findings

  • HBOT accelerates recovery from muscle damage after intense training — reducing soreness and shortening time to full performance capacity
  • Ligament and tendon injuries show significantly faster healing with HBOT, with published studies on ACL recovery showing meaningful reduction in return-to-play time
  • Pre-competition HBOT sessions show measurable improvements in sustained effort capacity and reduced fatigue onset
  • Concussion recovery protocols using HBOT show reduced symptom duration and faster return to play

Adopted by: Premier League football clubs, NBA programmes, Olympic training centres, professional cycling teams

What the research shows

The link between oxygen delivery to the brain and mental health is well established. HBOT’s effects on cerebral blood flow, neuroplasticity, and inflammation have implications for mood, anxiety, and recovery from trauma.

Key findings

  • Studies in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) show significant symptom reduction following HBOT protocols
  • Research in depression indicates that HBOT may support improvement in mood and energy, particularly where inflammation or neurological factors are implicated
  • Patients undergoing HBOT for other conditions commonly report improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and better emotional regulation as secondary benefits
